Forest Monastery

Tuesday 1st April
Routine day today, however after class we walked to the Forest Monastery about an hour and a half from our home stay. We passed tea plantations, pine forests with a herringbone scaring on the trunk of some of the trees which we think is how sap is collected, a goat herd with the farmer grazing them under the pines. A quiet road traffic wise.  The monastery was huge considering its isolation. It was a u shaped building with the temple at the end and covered by a huge canvas roof. The u shaped part appeared to be the living quarters. We arrived as the gong went for prayer and monks converged to the temple from all directions. We watched from a respectful distance. After a look around the grounds we made our way home by taxi.
