Saturday 8th February
I went to an amazing vegan café yesterday called Alchemy.  It was delicious, all of the food is raw with salads of all descriptions, juices, ice cream, sweets, and they even make amazing quiches; the base is also raw made of an almond and coconut type mix.
Raining today which is the first time we have rain on and off all day, it’s usually a downpour then clears again in an hour.
We were up early to farewell Lydia who we will miss, she has been great company and always interesting to talk too. Most of the girls are heading to different beaches today but we are staying put and I think I will book a massage ($10 – 1 hour),   We have done a fair bit of reading today.
This is the blurb from the Lala Lili Spa’s brochure – it’s very cute

(Massage was great by the way)

Sunday 9th February
Well we did it, we hired a motorbike and went on tour, no plan just winging it. We spent about four hours heading towards the highlands until it looked like we would get rained on, so changed direction and eventually found our way back to Ubud by following some very random signs and interesting sights. The traffic was its usual chaos, however not as bad as the mayhem we experienced in Vietnam. It was a really enjoyable day and apart from a little sunburn very successful.
We stopped off at a coffee plantation where they make the famous and expensive Luwak coffee.  This is the process where the coffee beans are eaten by the  Luwak; similar to a possum in NZ, and then after it has gone through its digestive system it is pooped out, collected, cleaned, dried , shelled, roasted and the coffee bean ground into coffee.  We refrained from trying however many people were.  I couldn’t quite get into it and Jim was adamant he wasn’t trying it!

Teaching tomorrow, and Jim gets a new partner as Lydia has finished her volunteering and is headed home to Slovakia, she will be missed.
